DAWG saves 100 dogs from a Whitewright home

DENISON, Texas (KXII) – The Denison Group for Animal Welfare rescued 100 more dogs from a single house in Whitewright on Saturday morning.

“It broke my heart and I knew I couldn’t leave them like this. So we went back and got the adoption trailer and we loaded them all up and said we were going to figure it all out. “said Phillips.

100 dogs were rescued from a home in Whitewright on Saturday afternoon, and earlier in the week Denison Animal Welfare Group rescued 31 dogs from a home in Bryan County.

“It’s an amazing feeling to know that the community is behind you and that’s why we can do things like this because we know we have this community supporting us and even though we didn’t have a plan when we started, we knew the community would come forward and support us when we did the right thing, ”said Phillips.

DAWG Executive Director Stephanie Phillips said she received a call from the Whitewright Police Department on Friday to rescue the dogs because they were not in suitable living conditions.

The dogs were locked in a small house, had urine and feces in their fur, and each dog had fleas and parasites in their stomachs.

“We went over there to assess the situation and see if we can help, we thought maybe 20-30 dogs we could help, but once we got out the conditions were not livable we so we decided to take them all, ”Phillips said. mentionned.

Phillips said it took about an hour to rescue the 89 dogs they brought back to the shelter, but it took about eight hours for the dogs to be washed, groomed and vaccinated.

Some officers from the Whitewright Police Department welcome the dogs, and Phillips said the community has already taken 40 dogs out of the shelter to adopt or welcome them.

“We feel great, we have a lot of love to give as you can see and we are delighted to show her the attention she deserves,” said Black.

The remaining dogs that will not be adopted or placed will be shipped to some of the DAWG’s partner shelters in the north on Wednesday.

“They are all fairly well socialized and not wild so they will need a few days to decompress and be part of a family and they will be great pets,” said Phillips.

Phillips said the charges would rest with the Whitewright Police Department.
