Evermore Pet Food Achieves Global Partnership for Animals (GAP) Farm Animal Welfare Certification

The pioneers of human-grade, gently cooked pet food take a step forward in their commitment to animal welfare with GAP certification.

OLIVEBRIDGE, NY and OAKLAND, CA., September 7, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Continuing their longstanding commitment to animal welfare and to helping raise the standards of the pet food industry as a whole, Evermore pet food has reached Global Animal Partnership (GAP) for all poultry formulas. Founded in 2009, Evermore was one of the very first companies to manufacture fresh frozen, human grade pet food. From day one, animal welfare, quality, transparency and accountability have stood as Evermore’s guiding principles. In the spirit of continuous progress and improving pet food industry standards, Evermore also adopted the Better Chicken Commitment earlier this year, a policy endorsed by 10 animal welfare organizations in United States and Canada. Obtaining GAP certification also helps demonstrate the implementation of this policy.

Although they are evocative buzzwords today, the terms “humane” and “humanely elevated” have no legal definition. Brands and individual producers can set their own parameters for what this means, operating without any oversight; in other words, a company can use the word “human” on a label as long as it lists what they or they believing qualifies them as human. This creates a gap between what brands subjectively claim and what consumers need to know to make informed decisions. GAP provides a solution by offering a comprehensive framework, developed to enable continuous improvement in farm animal welfare. The program’s species-specific standards reflect the latest research in agricultural science, combined with practical and achievable application for improved welfare, throughout the life of the animal. Accredited third-party certifiers audit each farm every 15 months to ensure compliance with GAP standards.

“We do this work because we have a deep love and respect for animals, including those raised for food,” the Evermore and Source-eress co-founder said. Alison Blumberg. “We’ve sourced exclusively GAP-certified poultry since 2015 and are so singularly focused on making the best, most welfare-promoting foods that we haven’t taken the steps to be certified ourselves. It’s now time for us to officially join GAP and work together to raise awareness and effect change.”

“We are thrilled that Evermore is taking this step to demonstrate its commitment to animal welfare,” said Diane McDadeBusiness Development Manager for GAP “We are delighted to partner with them to support farms that are committed to animal welfare and to give more choices to consumers who care about their pets and animals in general.”

GAP certification is recognized by Shop with your heart®a program of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) and an invaluable resource for helping consumers find more humane brands and products that truly align with their values using tools like the Shop with your heart’s grocery list.

“We’re impressed with Evermore’s drive to work with higher welfare farms simply because it’s the right and responsible thing to do,” says Nancy Roulston, Senior Director of Corporate Policy and Animal Scientist, ASPCA Farm Animal Welfare. “By achieving GAP certification, Evermore offers pet owners a more humane option in the marketplace. We are thrilled to add their chicken food products to the ASPCA’s Shop With Your Heart list of distinguished brands dedicated improving the lives of farm animals.”
