Man Charged with Abusing Wife and Children with Dog Collars, Needles, and Shock Hoses Over 6 Years – NBC10 Philadelphia

A man in Montgomery County, Pa., Is charged with physically assaulting his wife and two children over the course of several years using a variety of methods including dog shock collars, needles, pipes and wooden dowels .

Joseph Myhre, 44, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, strangulation and other related offenses.

Officials say the investigation began on March 15 after Myhre’s wife met with police at Einstein Medical Center in Montgomery. The woman told investigators Myhre had hit her several times on the back of the head and fractured her skull inside their home in Collegeville, police said. The woman said she went to the hospital after Myhre fell asleep. Myhre was arrested and charged with assault.

As police continued their investigation, they determined that Myhre also physically assaulted his 11-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son, whom he homeschooled for six years, according to a criminal complaint.

In an interview with police, Myhre’s daughter described the various ways her father had abused her over the years, investigators said. Myhre allegedly beat and mistreated her with several objects, including a lancet that he stuck under her fingernails and fingernails, a remote-controlled electric dog collar, needles, various sticks, PVC pipes, a wooden dowel, pliers and a shoe horn. He also allegedly hit her hundreds of times, placed her knees and feet on her stomach, strangled her and banged her head against the ground until she passed out.

Myhre’s son also told police his father had abused him hundreds of times since he was 5, according to the criminal complaint. As with her sister, the abuse included punching and kicking, strangling, punching with sticks and PVC pipes, and shocks with a dog collar, police said. The two children also told police they saw their father abuse their mother on several occasions, investigators said.

Investigators also said they obtained a cell phone recording of Myhre beating her children as they screamed in pain and begged him to stop.

Myhre was arraigned Friday night and placed in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $ 1 million bond. Its preliminary hearing is set for April 19.
