Sandi Toksvig leaves Great British Bake Off “to focus on other projects” | London Evening Standard

After three years and 51 shows, Sandi has announced plans to leave the Bake Off tent.

Toksvig is leaving the show to focus on other work projects, including hosting Channel 4’s upcoming series The Write Offs, which delves into the issue of adult literacy.

She said of her decision: “When leaving a job it’s quite common for people to say they are doing it in order to spend more time with their family. Exceptionally, I am leaving the Great British Bake Off to be able to devote more time to my other work. As my waistline will attest, Bake Off is a devouring spectacle.

“Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life. These are friendships that I know will continue beyond the confines of television. Bake Off is a great program that has already proven that it can easily handle a change in hospitality staff.

“The reason for this, of course, is that the real stars of the show are the bakers themselves. I wish everyone the best of luck.”

Richard McKerrow, Creative Director and Executive Producer of Love Productions, said: “We will always be incredibly grateful to Sandi for becoming one of the hosts of Bake Off when we moved to Channel 4, along with Noel, Paul and Prue.

“She has been a huge contributor to Bake Off over the past three years, with her lively and witty sense of humor and passionate commitment to the dozens of bakers during her time in the tent. We wish her all the best. in the exciting projects that she is currently working on and beyond.

Ian Katz, Channel 4 Program Director said, “Sandi is a big part of why the move from Bake Off to Channel 4 has been such a success and we are extremely grateful for her contribution to the show.

“His warmth and wit will be missed, not to mention his endless drive to be the butt of jokes about being the shortest person in the Bake Off tent.

“Fortunately, her unique voice will continue to have a significant presence on the channel with new shows in development – none of which involve cake.”

Channel 4 has confirmed that they are looking for a new face to join Noel, Paul and Prue in the tent.

The broadcaster has yet to reveal a start date for the new series, but the hit show typically begins in late August and airs throughout the fall.
