Texans Care for Texans campaign wins Gold Stevie Award

The 2020 Texans Care for Texans initiative presented by Kroger not only proved Texans care about Texans, but it also won national recognition at the 19th Annual American Business Awards last week.

The Houston Texans campaign has set a goal of helping feed half a million Houston families this past holiday season, winning a top 2021 Gold Stevie Award in the nonprofit / charity category.

The Houston Food Bank (HFB), one of Texans’ community partners, has been tasked with distributing 1,000,000 pounds of food daily to families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. The financial hardships Houstonians have faced as a result of the pandemic have created an almost double demand for food donations. After several meetings with the HFB and a better understanding of the scale of their needs, the Houston Texans Foundation set out to create a campaign that would involve the entire Houston community in raising enough funds to donate 500,000 meals to the HFB. during the month of November.

The program exceeded its target and provided an incredible 530,000 meals after a call to action in the community.

The Texans Care for Texans campaign featured by Kroger was even featured on the Houston Texans nationwide broadcast at the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day game, reaching over 2.3 million viewers across the country. The campaign ended with a thank you email to fans who made a donation and in-game check presentation to the Houston Food Bank on December 27 during the Texans vs Bengals game and aired on Texans TV.

Since 2002, the Houston Texans Foundation has donated nearly $ 3 million to the Houston Food Bank to fight food insecurity in the community. The annual Whataburger Hunger Action Month campaign has raised nearly $ 706,000 in five years. Additionally, the Huddle Against Hunger Program, presented by Kroger, is a free downloadable program that teachers and parents can use to teach elementary students through empathy, understanding, and action they can. undertake against hunger in their community.
